Throws and Blankets

The throws and blankets created by Milieux Interiors owner Marie Partridge are beautiful and unique one off pieces. Hand crafted to enhance the natural qualities of the luxurious merino wool. Marie ensures the time and care which is put into each of her creations is supported by the choice of high quality, locally produced materials and as such she sources her 100% merino wool from local Australian suppliers whose products are produced in Australia. The end result is a gorgeous completely individual Australian handmade heirloom item.

The throws and blankets are incredibly versatile pieces which can be used in different locations, lounge room, bedroom, nursery, outside and add texture, interest and wow factor to any room. The classic nature ensures that they complement any style of interior. All items are produced to order, and custom requests are welcomed. Lap throws

Lap throws approximately 70cm x 110cms are a great way to warm up in a chair whilst relaxing with a book and the beverage of your choice.

Sizes are approximate due to the hand produced nature of each knit and as with all knitted wool products there is some stretch in the stitches of the fabric.

Throws

Throws come in two standard size, medium and large.

Medium throws are approximately 110cm x 180cm which fits generously across the base of a single or double size bed or would keep several bodies cosy on a sofa inside or out.

Large throws are approximately 150 x 220cm and cover a queen or king size bed.

Blankets

Blankets are an approximate standard size of 180cm x 220cm again this will cover a queen or king bed.

Colours and stitches

A range of commercially dyed supersoft (19.5 micron) merino yarns are available. upon request. Due to the labour intensive nature of the dying process, these coloured throws are a slightly higher cost, please refer to the pricing details below.

A range of different stitch styles are also available, the most popular being, stocking stitch (with or without rows of knit pattern detail), plain knit and double rib designs.

Wool and needles

To create these tactile, soft and warm blankets and throws from the wool she sources, Marie undertakes a process of extreme knitting with huge needles, but in so doing creates extraordinary results. In addition to merino, Corriedale wool is also available in a range of natural shades and colours. This is 100% New Zealand produced and processed.

The natural protein fibre of wool has a greater bulk than other fibres and holds air which ensures that it has fantastic insulating properties. Wool also has flame retardant properties as well as being considered to have a very low allergenic risk.

Care

As with all knitted woollen pieces, pilling will occur as the knit is used, however the pills can be gently removed on a regular basis to maintain the look of the item. Excessive wear and tear and abrasive surfaces should be avoided as should sharp items, as these can catch on the fibres and cause pulls which can damage the integrity of the chunky yarn.

Whilst dry cleaning is recommended, the knits can be hand washed gently in very cool water, the excess water removed by carefully squeezing the item (do not wring or twist) and then rolling the item in a towel. They can then be gently reshaped and dried flat, out of direct sunlight.
