Main Bathroom

The owners wanted to maximise the sense of space in what was once a narrow dark room, but wished to keep the large bath. The floor plan was reconfigured and the bath relocated to below a new large frosted louvered window. Large format tiles were used, but limited to the floor and one wall in order to maintain the feeling of openness but provide a wet room style shower and bath area. To further promote the sense of space a floor to ceiling glass shower screen was added, a wall mounted basin with integral worktop and above a bank of storage cupboards are cleverly concealed within the wall cavity behind mirrored doors.

The requirement for this space was a functional entertainer’s kitchen which provided maximum connection to the outdoors. The central focus of the room is the large island bench and the space opens out onto a large deck and barbeque area with another large window extending to the floor overlooking the garden. Whilst basic laminate cabinets were selected, these were offset by the use of 40mm mitre cut caesar stone bench tops with double under mounted sinks, 900mm drawers and European stainless steel fittings and integrated appliances. To maximise the lightness of the space a mirrored splashback was added and delicate hand blown light fittings. The neutral colour palette highlights the rich dark wood floorboards and will continue to provide a contemporary look through future years.
The dining area can accommodate eight around the circular table. Ties to the kitchen are found in the custom designed and manufactured glass light fitting above the table and a the stencilled Japanese wisteria feature wall which echoes the colour palette of the kitchen, but also adds interest and vibrancy to the entire dining and kitchen area with a base colour of red.

The aim was to create a relaxed, contemporary, light filled interior which harmoniously incorporated the owner’s eclectic collection of objects, artworks, textiles and furnishings acquired during their travels around the world. Their desire was to develop a space where the art and fireplace were the focal points of the room. The fireplace was elevated and a floating shelf built along the length of the wall which doubles as extra seating whilst providing a display area without encroaching into the floor space. The colour palette was chosen to reflect the key colours in the kilim rug.

To create a fun and interactive baby girl’s room, a mural was custom designed and painted by Marie. The tree, whilst being two dimensional has three dimensional objects such as a bird house, flowers, butterflies, insects and birds, frogs, lizards and snakes added to it to provide an unexpected, playful element. The items can be updated and changed as the child grows and develops.
